New Delhi: The Indian National Congress (INC) on Tuesday offered legal assistance to young people who were arrested, detained or allegedly attacked during the ongoing protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over the alleged paper leak issue.
The opposition party shared a Google Form link to enable its legal team to reach out to those seeking assistance. Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had instructed its legal team to provide all possible support to those affected.
Ramesh also shared contact details and urged those requiring legal aid in connection with the protests to fill out the Google Form so that the Congress team could get in touch with them.
Delhi Police has registered four FIRs so far and is in the process of filing two more in connection with violence, vandalism and other incidents during the CJP's march to Parliament on July 20.
The cases have been registered at Parliament Street, Connaught Place and other police stations under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, sources said.
Security has been tightened across the national capital following Monday's clashes, in which Delhi Police said more than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters were injured, while over 20 police vehicles were damaged.
